Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The White Hart scores high marks for its authentic pub vibe and a great selection of beers and wines. Visitors rave about the delicious food, especially the burgers, fish and chips, and the hearty ploughman’s lunches. Many appreciate the prompt service that keeps the dining experience flowing smoothly. The atmospheric outdoor seating is also a highlight, providing a relaxing spot to unwind and enjoy a meal while soaking in the village's charm. Lastly, many love the dog-friendly policy, making it a great spot for pet owners.

Most Disliked

While the atmosphere captivates many, not everyone warms to the service. Some find the staff's demeanor a bit brusque, especially during peak times when the pub buzzes with tourists. Cash-only policies for smaller transactions can also frustrate guests without cash on hand. A few diners mention the presence of large groups, which can make cozy corners feel less intimate. Lastly, although most food receives praise, some feel a couple of dishes are hit-or-miss, especially on stressful days when the kitchen is pushed to its limits.

Came in for an evening meal on a friday in this popular little quaint village. Lovely old wibbly wobbly proper old pub. I had my staple burger, Mrs F the harlequin chicken. Both came quite quickly(we were in early doors) My burger was really good and tasty smash type the chips/fries really tasty too, and proper onion rings 😋 Mrs' harlequin chicken, was delicious too, with nice sauted potatoes. Washed mine down with a great, well kept pint of 6X Need to add that we were a group of 6 2 had the haddock n chips, 1 the pulled pork, 1 the camebert melt as a starter no complaints from anyone, all food was well cooked and presented. Thanks to the team here for 6 lovely meals 😁

A Wonderful Experience! We had a great time here! The food was excellent — we ordered the omelette and moules, and both were incredibly tasty, especially paired with a pint. The owners were so kind and welcoming, and everything was served quickly and with care. We also loved sitting at a sunny table — it really added to the atmosphere. Highly recommend!

The food is great here and the atmosphere is very cosy and welcoming. Best quiche and fish and chips I’ve had in a while. The curry is amazing too. And it’s dog friendly. As far as the owners, a lot of folks have complained how rude they are. I didn’t find they were rude. I felt like they were trying to run a pub in a small village that is overcome with every tourist nationality you can imagine. And many of these people are quite rude themselves. So give this place a try but also don’t expect the staff to be your best friend. But you can expect great food and a nice pint.

With its beamed ceilings, fireplaces, and stone floors, the White Hart is your quintessential old English pub. Local or one of the many tourists, you will find a warm welcome, even if, like me, you are a teddy bear! Mummy's tomato juice was under the minimum card payment amount, and she didn't have enough cash. However, the lovely landlord gave her a tomato juice anyway, and we shared it. The pub is dog friendly and is in the center of the pretty village of Castle Combe. Definitely pop in for a drink or bite to eat if checking out the village. Say a teddy bear sent you!

Lovely old pub in the picturesque village of Castle Combe. Small but well formed, it makes the most of it's space with seating inside, under an extension and in a terraced garden. Good beers, good food and friendly staff.
